1. Read the books in the supplemental materials section of this lesson. The first time through, ask the person to read just the subject pronouns, and you read the rest of the words. Then at another reading, ask the person to read the pronoun plus the verb following. As much as the person is able, have him or her read all the words in the story.
2. Look for subject pronoun plus verb combinations in other books that you read. Ask the person to read the words that he or she knows. Be sure to give lots of support with modeling if needed.
C. Writing
1. Make up your own story using Word or Power Point. Insert digital photos or clip art. Use pronoun-verb phrases or sentences for captions.
2. If the person is not able to write independently, be sure to connect to a computer and write with the device as a keyboard. For help with setting up computer access, see the support section of the PRC web site.
3. Be sure to send a copy of the book home!
D. Generalization
1. Look for subject pronouns + verb combinations everywhere. Celebrate when you find one.
2. Find other pronoun-verb phrases in the device that are stored as shortcuts.
3. Practice saying other phrases that begin with subject pronouns.
4. When the person has become good at saying pronoun + verb phrases, point out that you can also say negative phrases and questions. This is a lead in for language stage 5.
