3. The person will speak a name to initiate a conversation with someone.
4. The person will speak a name to ask a question about someone.

Teaching Activities:

A. Speaking

1. Technical programming steps to take:
Before the person can start using proper names, you need to store some customized vocabulary into the device. See the supplemental teaching resources at the end of this lesson to download instructions if you need to. You may also look for technical support for storing vocabulary and importing icons at http://support.prentrom.com
You may want to import digital photos of people instead of using icons from the device. You will find programming steps at the same support site.
2. Model and teach the custom vocabulary that you have stored for names.
3. Ask the person questions that can be answered by using a name.
4. Ask the person to identify people (don't do this often or too much, because if they already know the person, this can be boring.
5. Look at photo albums. Encourage the person to speak the names of people in the photos.

B. Reading

1. Make up a short story about someone the person knows. Use the name frequently in your story. You can use a word document and insert digital photos. Print out the story and encourage the person to read it with you. Let him or her say the names in the story.
2. Make name tags for people. If the person is able, encourage him or her to read the names on the name tags.

C. Writing

1. Connect the device to a computer with a USB cable or Blue Tooth module. Let the person practice writing names into a word document.
2. Insert digital photos of familiar people into a word document. Let the person use computer access with the device to write names under the pictures.

D. Generalization

1. Model and teach names that are included in phrases such as "mom come here" and "dad get that"
2. Model and teach two word phrases that begin with a name such as "mom help" and "dad stop"
3. Play a game: Have someone else suggest an action such as "work" "sleep" "go". Ask the person to name the person who then has to do the action.
